I love a good book, always have and I hope I always will. I used to find that when I was younger when kids would be out kicking balls at each other or climbing trees and falling over, that I’d much prefer to curl up with a book (I did get out when I was younger, just to let you know…) and sometimes, it’s the same now. Sometimes there’s nothing better than relaxing on the sofa or in bed with a good book, a cup of tea and some biscuits and I found myself doing this a lot over the two weeks I was off college. I’m always up for reading new genres or finding new brilliant authors, so I thought I’d start a Sunday feature on my blog, The Book Review, so that all you lovely readers might be able to find some new reads yourself!
Today’s review is about Safe Haven, written by Nicholas Sparks, the very famous American author and screenwriter who has also wrote the amazing Dear John, The Last Song, The Lucky one and of course, The Notebook. Although these books (they have also been made into films, I highly recommend those too), mainly feature teenagers/young adults, Sparks also writes for an older audience with books such as Nights in Rodanthe and A Message in A Bottle.
The book follows the lives of Katie, a mysterious woman who’s arrival in the small seaside town of Southport, North Carolina, raises questions about her past, and Alex, a widowed father of two young children. Reluctant to form personal ties, Katie soon finds herself in two different relationships, one with Alex and one with straight talking Jo.
Now I don’t want to give anything away at all, as the book is such a good read and will definitely make you not want to put it down – I read it in a day! Safe Haven deals with some sensitive issues, but Sparks writes it so well and makes it easy to relate to whether you can actually relate or not, and if you’re anything like me, you’ll find yourself getting attached! (I even got butterflies for a fictional character at one point in the book, that’s not sad, right?).
I love the way Nicholas Sparks writes. Romance books can sometimes be a bit cheesy and predictable, but his never are, and Safe Haven is no exception. I’m yet to see the film, but I loved the book so much I can’t wait! If you want to read more about the book and blurb, you can read it on Sparks’ website here!
Let me know if you read the book and what you think, or if there’s any books you would recommend! Thank you for reading ๐

I love Nicholas Sparks! I found him ages ago of course through The Notebook, but Dear John has so far been my favourite. I'll definitely have to treat myself and give this one ago, you've made it sound intriguing!

Me too! I'm not sure which my favourite is, I've seen more of the films based on his books than actually read the books which is sad ๐ I'm either going to have to take a trip to the library or buy them after payday ๐ Thank you for reading and commenting ๐ xxx
