As I was re-arranging my bookcase for the umpteenth time, I thought “boy, I really do love bookish candles”. If anything, I could do with a couple of shelves for my candles alone! I love discovering new bookish candle stores, and seeing what’s out there, so I thought I’d put together a little post about my favourites and maybe give you a little inspiration (I apologise to your bank account in advance).
First up is a fairly new addition to my shelves: Welcome to Weep by Two Candle Thieves. I read Strange the Dreamer by Laini Taylor earlier this year and absolutely fell in love. The story, the writing and the book itself were all beautiful and this candle definitely does them justice. Welcome to Weep smells of old books, lost cities, alchemy and blood candy, a lovely and sweet scent that isn’t too overbearing. Every time I sniff it, I can almost picture myself strolling through the streets of Weep with Lazlo!
Next up, my favourite series (and couple). Meraki Candles were one of the first stores I ever bought a bookish candle from, and I always make sure to take advantage of their offers! I also had the pleasure of meeting Meraki’s creator Heather at YALC who was super lovely. My favourite Meraki candles are Feyre and Starfall, not just for the obvious reasons. Both candles have unique but lovely scents. While Feyre is a fresher scent which reminds me of the outdoors (very apt for our huntress-slash-High Lady) made with jasmine, citrus and honey, Starfall is sweeter with a little more depth, made with jasmine, freesia and pine. I like to think that the Night Court smells just like this!
The next two favourites are again from Two Candle Thieves: Stars Eternal and Night Triumphant. I’m basically a sucker for anything Feysand, ACOTAR… basically anything Sarah J. Maas! Night Triumphant carries a much more masculine scent which I adore and think is perfect for our High Lord, made of citrus, sea breeze and stardust, whilst Stars Eternal is a more sophisticated, feminine fragrance of jasmine, pine and amber. Both candles greatly compliment one another, just like our favourite couple.
As you can see, this candle has already been well loved. I have quite a few candles from Book & Nook, and always find myself coming back to them. Master of Caraval is one of my favourites of theirs. Made with scents of rose petals, strawberries and champagne, it’s a very sweet candle that reminds me somewhat of strawberry laces! Unfortunately this candle was an exclusive, which I very kindly won in a giveaway a few months back but Book & Nook have lots of other awesome candles to choose from.
Ah now this candle by William and Joseph might just be my ultimate favourite. I ordered it while reading A Court of Mist and Fury for the first time, and the smell takes me right back to that week in 2016, and will always hold a special place in my heart! So, I have been a little reluctant to use it as I was terrified that I would use it all up and it would be discontinued, but in fact it has been re-branded as Rhysand’s Kiss. I could never do this scent justice, so all I can say is that is super long lasting, fills the room but is in no way overpowering and I like to think that this is exactly what Rhysand smells like.
I received this mini candle by In the Wick of Time in a FairyLoot box. Mist, with scents of warm stone and woodsmoke, reminds me a great deal of William and Joseph’s Rhysand. It’s strong and masculine and the perfect fragrance for those cooler Autumn nights.
I guess you might notice a kind of pattern here… I have quite a few candles from Two Candle Thieves. I can’t help it, their candles are just too good! This candle was released as part of the Thieve’s Women of Westeros collection: candles celebrating the women of Game of Thrones. With fragrances of cinnamon, amber and fire, Queen Across the Sea (inspired by Daenerys Targaryen!) reminds me a nice, warm cake. Lemon cake in particular. And just look at those crystal pieces!
In the interest of being totally transparent, I would like to say that I am lucky enough to be a rep for Two Candle Thieves, which means that not only do I get to discover their latest candles but I can also offer you guys 10% off your orders with them if you use code AMY10! While some of these candles I have received as part of a rep package, I do purchase my own too because I seriously can’t get enough of them. Have any of these candles caught your eye? Leave your favourite bookish candles and merch stores below, I’m always on the lookout for a new favourite!
