The past few years has seen me accumulating a mass of clothes, but still declaring “I have nothing to wear!” every morning when trying to get ready. I’ve never really had a particular style, but just picked up whatever took my fancy. This was great until I tried to create more than one look with an item and found it wasn’t very versatile and the whole cycle began again.
I’ve been contemplating starting to put together a capsule wardrobe with a number of pieces that can create various looks when put together, so when George got in touch with me asking if I wanted to take part in their #waystowear campaign, I of course jumped at the chance. George want to highlight the fact that with one hero piece, you can create a range of outfits just by changing the accessories and what you partner them with!
I was a little dubious at first thinking “how am I going to be able to make three different looks around one piece?” but I soon became overwhelmed with the amount of beautiful yet affordable pieces they had on offer. I opted for this black cut-out shoulder dress as the key piece. It’s on trend, will go with lots of different colours and I knew I’d be able to create different looks around it. The best part? It’s only £10! It’s a little long on my petite frame but I love it.
The first look I created was smart. Maybe for a weekend away or for a date night. For this I paired the dress with this gorgeous button through mac. I’d been on the lookout for a mac trench coat for so long and as soon as I saw this, I knew it was the one. I chose to accessorise the outfit with an embellished necklace and earrings.
The second look I created was workwear. With starting a marketing placement in July, I wanted to put together pieces that were smart yet casual, pefect for agency work! I chose to team the black dress with a stripy white and navy blazer. I love the fit of the blazer; it goes in slightly at the waist which helps to accentuate my non existence waist and finishes off the outfit.
The final look is a casual holiday look, perfect for those warm, Summer days. I think the dress looks super cute cinched in at the waist with this white belt, these gorgeous heeled sandals and my new favourite pair of sunglasses!
I can’t believe how versatile this black dress and that the black duffle bag goes with any look! Want to hear the best part? Everything comes to just under £100! Can you believe that? George wasn’t somewhere I immediately went when I fancied a bit of shopping but after taking part in this campaign and realising how on trend and affordable they were, I think that will definitely change. How would you style the dress and #DressUpWithGeorge?
