Back in August I read a grand total of… two books. Not that there is anything wrong with that, but I didn’t feel it was enough to warrant a full wrap up. Fast forward to September during which I read eleven books, and now I have 13 to talk about! I’ve decided to split the books I read in August and September across two posts. Let’s hope I manage to keep it concise…

Vicious by L.J. Shen
This book is very highly rated on Goodreads so I was excited to find it on Kindle Unlimited. Don’t get me wrong, I love a good dark romance, however for me this was just abusive, demeaning and cruel and I could not see any redeeming qualities in the love interest. The chemistry wasn’t there for me either and people commit actual crimes and seem to just get away with it? 1/5
Wilder Girls by Rory Power
This was a highly anticipated read for me and while I raced through it, finding it mysterious and unnerving, I just felt that there was something a little lacking which meant I didn’t enjoy it as much as I hoped. If you’re looking for a horror set on an isolated island in the midst of a contagion then this is for you! 3.5/5

The Beautiful by Renée Ahdieh
I was SO excited to have my wish granted on Netgalley for this book after missing out at YALC! I wrote a full spoiler free review here but to sum it up this was a “seductive and hypnotic read that had my heart and mind captured from beginning to end”. 4/5 stars.
City of Ghosts and Tunnel of Bones by Victoria Schwab
I thought I’d group these two together as there isn’t really much I can say about the second book alone for fear of spoilers! This was my first foray into V’s middle grade writing and I loved it! Super atmospheric and creepy, I was gripped throughout both books and couldn’t wait to see what Cass and Jacob would get up to. Full reviews to come! 4.5/5 and 4/5 stars respectively.

A Heart So Fierce and Broken by Brigid Kemmerer
I was so incredibly excited to be sent an advanced copy of one of my most anticipated reads of 2020 (several months early!) and it definitely did not disappoint. This book absolutely blew me away and I couldn’t put it down. Every time I got to the end of a chapter I HAD to know what was going to happen next! I think it’s safe to say that I’m now very firmly on team Grey… full spoiler free review to come. 5/5 stars.
A Court of Mist and Fury by Sarah J. Maas
If you’ve followed me online for even just a few months then I don’t need to tell you that this is my favourite series. If you didn’t know, well, this is my favourite series. I re-read the books every year and this time I listened to the audiobook for the first time and I really enjoyed consuming this story through another medium. I love this book each and every time I read it, the only way I can explain it is that it feels like home and I think I’ll always feel that way! Of course it was 5/5 stars.
There we have part one of the books I read in August and September! Keep an eye out for part two coming later this week.

All the YES to ACOMAF and City of Ghosts. Your post has made me realise that I NEED to pick up tunnel of bones. Plus it may also be time for my bi-yearly ACOTAR reread 🙂
I am *so jealous* of you having read A Heart So Fierce and Broken, it sounds amazing and is one of my most anticipated. Now I’m extra excited for next year.

Oh no I’m so disappointed about Vicious! 👎🏻 But at least you loved The Beautiful, I really need to get to that one!
Every single one of these are on my TBR except City of Ghosts, which I read last year and thought it was adorable.
