I hadn’t planned on writing this post, or reading any spooky reads really, but after watching lots of Spookathon vlogs on YouTube and picking up some recommendations I decided I wanted to get into the seasonal spirit (no pun intended) myself. So, here I am with my list of Halloween reads!
I might be being a little optimistic here, but I’m hoping to make my way through these three books over the next week, from the 28th October to the 3rd November. I did something similar back in 2017 and had a great reading month so I’m really excited to get stuck in again. Whilst horror isn’t a genre I pick up often, I do love a thriller and I’ve got high hopes for these next few books. Keep reading for my selection of chilling reads…

Pretty Girls by Karin Slaughter
I’ve seen this book mentioned quite a few times now online and it has garnered some highly rated reviews! Twenty years ago a girl disappeared without a trace, and now a second girl has gone missing with eery echoes of the first. That’s about all I know! Due to the reviews, I anticipate that this will be a very dark thriller with lots of twists and turns and I can’t wait.
Pet Sematary by Stephen King
This will be my first foray into the world of Stephen King and I have very high hopes. Again, I don’t really know much about this book except that it features an ancient graveyard on an Indian burial site and lots of dead pets…
Ninth House by Leigh Bardugo
This is one of my most anticipated reads of 2019, and it’s safe to say that I am thoroughly enjoying it so far. I attended Leigh’s Q&A and signing last night which has made me even more excited to devour the rest of the story. A book about secret societies at Yale, a girl who can see ghosts and the sinister occult; the perfect October read.
So let’s keep our fingers crossed that I manage to stick to my word this week and make myself feel sufficiently spooked. I also couldn’t help but include this photo featuring my own little familiar, Selma. Do you have any Halloween Reads planned?

Good luck! I don’t get on with Stephen King but I’ll keep my fingers crossed for you.
I read The Beautiful on Hallowe’en and I loved it.
