In the third instalment of my NaNoWriMo diaries, I’m sharing with you the progress I’ve made over the last week and 3 things I’m excited about when it comes to my WIP!
Last week I posted 5 free resources that could help you with your NaNoWriMo journey, from free downloadable resources to author’s YouTube accounts.
Like I’ve mentioned earlier, I’m not necessarily writing my novel every day. Instead I’m using the month to form a daily habit of working on my writing. So far, it’s going well but it’s time for another check in.

How did the last week go?
Confession time: I missed a day this week so I didn’t 100% stick to my goal. BUT I’m not beating myself up. I needed the time off to recharge my batteries and my motivation, and you know what? My WIP hasn’t suffered because of it.
I’m still working my way through the Creating Character Arcs Workbook by K. M. Weiland, which has been super helpful. I think that reading the book itself first would have been beneficial but it’s still been a great tool for me when considering my plot and characters.
I also make notes of any ideas that pop into my head in my main notebook. This notebook is like my bible, it has everything in it. Random plot ideas, character profiles, songs that I associate with the stories, things I need to research, character arcs and a lot more. I’d be lost without it!
3 things I’m excited about
1. That feeling when your story and characters run away with themselves and you just can’t stop writing, as they come into their own and forge their own path forwards. I wish it was like that all the time!
2. Being able to read back what I’ve written and (hopefully) be proud as heck, thinking “huh, I really did that.”
3. Being able to add some representation into the story, creating characters that younger Amy needed and would have related to, and that older Amy is super excited about
What are my plans for next week?
I am determined to finish working through Creating Character Arcs this week! I still have Save The Cat: Writes a Novel! to read through but I want to start properly plotting in the next few days. I can always revisit these resources when I have the storyline out in front of me which might actually be a better idea.
Back at the beginning of the month, I bought some flashcards which I’m going to be using to help me plot. As I’ve mentioned before I have a lot of scenes and ideas already but I definitely think that having them all out layed out in front of me will help me along.
And there are the 3 things I’m excited about for my WIP!
