As a fellow booklover, I’m sure you too have some (many) unread books sitting on your shelves, and today I’m here to share 7 popular books I need to read in 2021.
These are some of the books that have been knocking around on my shelves for far too long now so I just need to put on my big girl pants and read them. A lot of these are well loved and highly rated and maybe that’s why I’m so intimidated? Or maybe it’s the fact that I get excited about a number of books, buy them, and then get excited about another set of books and the cycle continues.

There are lots more than this that I really should get around to, but these are the ones I’m desperate to pick up. With seven on this list, I’m looking at around one every two months or so, which sounds very reasonable when you put it like that doesn’t it? Let’s just ignore the fact that I posted something very similar last year and well, that wasn’t a huge success…
Here are the 7 popular books I need to read in 2021!

The Poppy War by R.F. Kuang
This series is absolutely beloved across the book community and it sounds so freakin goooood but also I am v intimidated and nervous because of how much everyone loves it!

Cemetery Boys by Aiden Thomas
This one is a fairly recent release so I don’t feel as guilty about it as some of the other titles on here, but I am DESPERATE to pick this up and it has so many glowing reviews so just, why haven’t I read this yet? Why Amy???

Nevernight by Kay Kristoff
I have mixed feelings about this series as I’ve tried to start this book three times now and for some reason I just can’t get into it. I really don’t know why! Maybe in 2021 it’ll be my last attempt and I’m hoping it works out well.

The Dark Vault by V.E. Schwab
Despite having a full shelf dedicated to this author, I actually haven’t read all of their books! This is a fave among my friendship group so I feel like a bit of a clown for not having read this yet. AND I have a signed copy lmao.

City of Brass by S.A. Chakraborty
Another much loved series which I got 20 pages or so in to and just… stopped? It wasn’t that I wasn’t enjoying it, I think it was more because there were other things I was more interested in reading at the time. So 2021 is going to be the year!

Lady Midnight by Cassandra Clare
I finally got around to reading The Infernal Devices earlier this year, despite having read The Mortal Instruments maybe seven or so years ago, and I enjoyed TID much more than TMI so I’m excited to carry on with the Shadowhunters world.

The Long Way to a Small, Angry Planet by Becky Chambers
My friends convinced me to buy the entire series last year at YALC so I kinda gotta read this and enjoy it? Kidding. I’ve heard amazing things but also that it’s going to break my heart so that’s something to look forward to.
Honourable mentions to: The Wrath and the Dawn by Renee Ahdieh, Circe by Madeline Miller, Girls of Storm and Shadow by Natasha Ngan, Scythe by Neal Schusterman, Boyfriend Material by Alexis Hall, The Simple Wild by K. A. Tucker.
There we have the 7 popular books I need to read in 2021! So, this definitely sounds manageable right? And the fact that all of these books are so popular means that the likelihood of me enjoying them is pretty high so I’m excited!
The Cemetery Boys has been on my radar for quite a while, too. Maybe 2021 will be the year I finally riffle through my TBR! Haha. Jay Kristoff also has me tempted, though mostly in anticipation for his new release!?
Yess I’m planning to read Cemetery Boys this month and I’m excited!
