Hey pals. Happy New Year! I’m kicking off the year by sharing 10 book and blog goals for 2021.
Personally, I thrive off the feeling of a fresh start. Whether that’s starting a new hobby or routine on a Monday, or that feeling of happiness when you start writing in a new notebook, there’s something exciting for me about the new. BUT…
We’re not obligated to change just because it’s a new year. We’re awesome already! ✨
I’m taking this opportunity to think about the upcoming year and the things that I want to spend more time on, things that I want to put more energy into and the things that I love so that I can do more of them!
Let’s get into 10 book and blog goals for 2021.

2020 check in
I’m not beating myself up about anything I may not have achieved this year because let’s be honest, it’s been somewhat challenging to say the least. But let’s take a look at some of my goals from 2020 to see how I got on with them!
I wanted to read the books on my 2020 TBR Trolley and we don’t have to get into the shame here as I didn’t succeed with this one. I also planned to put £1 away per book read. I definitely wish I’d done this after reading 102 books. This also beat my original goal of 30 books too. I also made more of an effort to DNF any book I’m not enjoying reading which felt totally freeing and is another goal checked off the list. Let’s say a quick ‘lol no’ to my goals of only buying highly anticipated books and reading the book I already own.
I used to listen to books while commuting and obviously I haven’t been doing a lot of that this year so listening to more audiobooks was a bit of a fail. Another goal was to read more diversely and while this is something I prioritised and enjoyed, it’s something we can always improve on.
2021 goals and plans
Books
Read 50 books – Although I hit 102 reads this year I like to set my goal to lower than I anticipate reaching to take some of the pressure off. Reading is sometimes viewed as a sort of competition; the more books you read or the louder you shout about them means you’re a better reader but that just isn’t it. We love to read and however we consume them or however we engage with them, it doesn’t make us less of a fan.
Read more diversely – Throughout the last couple of years I’ve made a conscious effort to make sure I’m reading more diversely but as I said above, it’s something I can continue to be better at.
Catch up on series – Hands up who starts series but doesn’t always finish them? HELLO ME! I have a few series on the go and actually I wrote about this back in 2019 and oops, still haven’t finished them!
Make a dent in my physical TBR – I don’t even know how much books I actually own anymore so I don’t have a solid way of tracking this but what I do know is that I’ve had to buy more bookcases in order to store them sooo. Actually maybe I should go and make a note of my unread TBR.
Social and Content
Stick to a blogging schedule – I’ve felt really good about my blog content over the last few months but it’s something I want to make more organised and structured. I don’t want to box myself in too much but I like to have a clear plan. I’m thinking at least two posts a week to begin with.
Engage in the community more – This is another goal that is never really fully achieved because it’s something I can consistently work on. I have a lot of love for this community and the inspiration and friendships it has given me, and I want to be more present. I’m part of a blog comment pod but just in general I want to chat with you all more!
Blog updates – I’ve got a lot of ideas for improvements I can make for my blog so I can’t wait to start implementing these updates. I’m excited to write more recommendation posts and add different ways of navigating, such as browsing my blog by trope.
Post on Instagram once a week – I go through up and down phases with Instagram where I post consistently for a number of days and then I go months without sharing anything. I love Instagram as a platform and browsing everyone else’s feeds so it would be cool to contribute myself.
Cross post my reviews – As much as I would love to review every book I read on Goodreads I’m not going to hold myself accountable for that too much, so my actual goal is to make sure any reviews I post on here also get uploaded to other review sites!
Post more on YouTube – 2020 was a lot of things, but it was also the year I started my own YouTube channel. The first few months were great for content but admittedly I’ve let it slide a lot. I’d love to get back to it and can’t wait for more reading vlogs!
I’m excited about all the good things to come in 2021!
Thank you so much for checking out 10 book and blog goals for 2021! There are probably more I could add to the list but sometimes it can feel a little overwhelming to have too many things you want to achieve.
I hope that you might have found something here to inspire your own list of goals for the next year. I’m sending you all the good vibes for the next twelve months. We got this 💖
I love the “We’re awesome already.” bit. I think some of us can forget that at times. Good luck with your goals!
These are great goals! I definitely have some of these on my list as well
I set my goal to 50 too! It just takes the pressure off doesn’t it 😊
I really love this and definitely have similar goals. I’m wanting to keep the pressure off with reading because I kept falling into bad reading slumps last year but I would also like to make a significant dent in my physical TBR and stay consistent with my blog too! Good Luck with all your goals, I’m sure you’ll smash them!
Hahahaha omg yes catch up on series. I am the worst for having loads of sequels on my tbr 😂
Good luck Amy! I think a big goal for us is to definitely stick to a blogging schedule too
We share we have w lot of similar goals. I want to tackle my physical tbr, post more on YT, and catch up on series I’ve started. I can’t wait to see more videos from you this year friend
Great list of goals!
I really need to make cross posting review one of my goals too, I always forget to do it!
It’s so easy to forget!
These are some excellent goals, good luck with them! I really struggle with engaging with the book community and something I want to get better at too.
It can feel overwhelming at times so I’m trying to be better. We got this <3
I love this energy, Amy!
Your goals for the year look fantastic, and I love to see so many people focusing on reading more diversely. Even though you didn’t do this, I am totally stealing your save a dollar for every read book… that sounds like a lot of fun! Happy reading in 2021!
Yay thanks Kal! I know sometimes there’s a lot of pressure to be a “new you” but why when we are already amazing?! I wish I’d saved some money last year but maybe this year!?
“ Hands up who starts series but doesn’t always finish them?” ……….. I felt attack😂
