Hi all, I hope 2021 is treating you well so far and welcome to the New Year book tag!
I wasn’t necessarily tagged to do this but saw it over on Lois’ blog and thought why the heck not. It will also be fun to look back on this at the end of the year and see whether I actually succeeded at any of these. I also just really like tag posts!
Let’s get into the New Year book tag.

How many books are you planning on reading in 2021?
I’ve set my initial goal at 50 books. I read just over 100 in 2020 and have hit over 50 for a few years in a row now, but I like to set my goal to lower than I think I will achieve just to take some of the pressure off.
Name five books you didn’t get to read in 2020 but want to make a priority in 2021?
Oh wow. Well, I actually have a full post on those books here but if I’m picking just five I’m going to go with:
- The Poppy War by R.F. Kuang
- City of Brass by S.A. Chakraborty
- Lady Midnight by Cassandra Clare
- The Long Way to a Small, Angry Planet by Becky Chambers
- Boyfriend Material by Alexis Hall
Name a genre you want to read more of in 2021?
In 2020 I read a ton of romance and fantasy, and I definitely want to continue with that because they’re my faves, but I also have some highly anticipated thrillers on my TBR for the year.
Three non-book related goals for 2021
I would love to start learning a new language, implement yoga into my routine (and keep it up) and try and establish a good sleep routine!
What’s a book you’ve had forever that you still need to read?
For this I’m going to go with Nevernight by Jay Kristoff. It was published in 2016 and I’ve basically had it on my shelves since then. I’ve started it a couple of times but just never got through it. It’s on my list for 2021 though!
One word that you hope 2021 will be?
Abundant.
Thanks for sticking around for the New Year book tag! A nice short and sweet post for today. I’m putting good vibes out into the universe for 2021 and I’ll extend them all to you lovely people too.
If you’re reading this, I tag you!
Oh I really like this tag! I have similar non-bookish goals to you!
Yay thanks for reading!
Really great post and such a fun tag. I managed to read half of the poppy War in 2020 and I am determined to finish it this year with A Long Way to a Small Angry Planet too.
Aaah yay I hope we both manage to achieve the goals!
Oooh good word!
U GOTTA READ THE POPPY WAR AMY AND LIVE TEXT ME YOUR THOUGHTS
Promise I will soon!
Okay I will… soon! 😂
Establishing a good sleep schedule is something i’d need to.. though i’m not sure how as I can’t really get the help of melatonin 😥 (as is don’t work on me- when mixed it can counter-effect my depression meds)
Learning a new language always sounds fun!! Which one?
Aw no that sounds tough 🙁 I’m hoping to work on my Spanish!
Ohh,have fun! I had taken a class of spanish in high school.. sadly, I now only remember a couple of words & counting 😅
I also want to read Boyfriend Material this year because I couldn’t in 2020. What new language are you thinking about learning? I love languages!
I’m thinking about Spanish!!
Love this tag… may do this myself now! Also, please read A Long Way to a Small Angry Planet! It’s so good!
Tag away!!
Ooh I love your new banner Amy! 😍 I’d also like to try yoga this year, no idea where to start tho 😂 Do you mind if I tag myself for this?
No of course not! Tag away!
i snorted at the idea of a decent sleep routine, but yknow what best of luck
Hahaha thanks pal
I love thrillers! These are some great goals and looks into the new year.
Good luck with your 2021 reading!
The Poppy War is TOUGH, it’s proper grimdark. I’m planning to reread it this year and then read the other two, as I never got to them last year.

Yes I have heard it can be quite a dark read but I know a lot of people have loved it!
This is such a fun tag! I might have to borrow it! You have such a lot of great books to get to this year!!
I love this tag! I recently read Boyfriend Material and loved it, I hope you do too. Hope 2021 treats you well!

This is such a cool tag! I want to try and read TPW & CoB this year too.
Hopefully we can both do it!
The Poppy War and City of Brass were on my list last year to and I never got to them! I hope we both can read and enjoy them this year!
Love this tag! Definitely want to try to add yoga to my routine too 🙂
