Hello lovely people, I hope you’re having a happy Monday and welcome to my recent book haul!
It seems that over the past month or so I suddenly fell into a book buying hole. I mean, I regularly buy books but there seems to have been more than usual popping through my letter box. This year I do want to make an effort to work through my owned and backlist TBR, but in my defence some of these are very highly rated and loved books so how could I resist?!

Let’s get into the book haul 🖤

I’ve really been wanting to read more middle grade so I did some research last month and picked up a handful that sounded right up my street.
In A Dash of Trouble* by Anna Meriano, we follow Leonara who, after being told she’s too young to join her family in their bakery as they prepare for Dia de los Muertos, sneaks out of school and finds out her mother, aunt and sisters have been keeping a secret – they’re brujas!
For when I’m feeling a little spooky, We’ve got Spirit Hunters by Ellen Oh, a ghost hunting, haunted house adventure story, and The Haunting of Aveline Jones* by Phil Hickes which features a mysterious disappearance and a creepy old book!
In The Whispers by Greg Howard, eleven year old Riley is navigating life after his mother’s disappearance while crushing on Dylan in the 8th grade. He sets out to find his mum with the help of the Whispers, wish granting fairies from the stories she used to tell him.
The final middle grade is When Life Gives You Mangoes* by Kereen Getten, an atmospherical twisty tale about a girl who can’t remember what happened last summer, with themes of friendship, family, grief and trauma.
There are only two young adult novels on this list which is pretty indicative of my reading tastes lately!
First is And the Stars Were Burning Brightly* by Danielle Jawando, which is described as “an emotionally rich and current story of suicide, mental health, bullying, grief and growing up around social media.” As someone who grew up in the time just before social media really took off, I’m super intrigued.
The Cursebreakers trilogy by Brigid Kemmerer fast became a favourite YA series of mine, so of course I had to complete my collection of Fairyloot special editions with A Vow So Bold and Deadly*!
Finally we’ve got some exciting adult fiction and a non fiction I’ve been meaning to pick up for far too long.

I really should have picked up Why I’m No Longer Talking to White People About Race* by Reni Eddo-Lodge sooner, but I’ll definitely be rectifying that in the coming weeks.
Where The Crawdads Sing* by Delia Owens is one of those books that I’ve seen everywhere but never really knew what it was about. After reading some reviews I’m definitely more intrigued. I started City of Brass* by S.A. Chakraborty a few months back and for some reason put it down after a chapter or so. I don’t know why! But this series is loved by a lot of people so I’m excited to get back around to it.
Oh hello special editions of The Mask Falling* by Samantha Shannon! I devoured an early copy of this book late last year so of course I had to grab some signed and exclusive copies too. I was lucky enough to get my hands on the Illumicrate, Waterstones and Goldsboro copies. Yes I have a book collecting problem.
Down Among the Sticks and Bones* by Seanan Mcguire is on my F/F February TBR and though I’ve already started the audiobook on Scribd, I really wanted the physical copy too. Especially as I loved Every Heart a Doorway.
And that wraps up my recent book haul.
I mean, who am I kidding, I’ve probably got more on the way. I really do need to stop buying books, at least for the time being so my bank account and reading challenge can catch up!
Have you picked up any books lately?

I’ve not picked up any for a while. I love how varied your haul list is though!
I loved And the Stars Were Burning Brightly! I cannot wait to see what you think.
