Hi pals, hope you’re doing well and thanks for joining me today as I share 5 middle grade books that I can’t wait to pick up. Now not all of these are new or recent releases admittedly, but they’re new to me in that I haven’t gotten around to reading them yet!
Working as a Children’s Bookseller means that I’m surrounded by books all day every day and honestly, I’m surprised that I haven’t spent waaay more more there than I actually have since starting a couple of months ago. Anyway, I am forever picking books off the shelves that I want to read so you’ll probably see a lot more of these posts as time goes on.
Here are 5 middle grade books I’m excited to read!

The Raven Heir by Stephanie Burgis
Only coming out a couple of weeks ago, The Raven Heir is a magical fantasy story about triplets who live with their sorceress mother in the forest and must hide their true identity to prevent becoming heir to the throne, which would only end in death. Not only is this cover gorgeous, but the reviews I’ve seen so far are glowing and it sounds like just the kind of adventure I want to read about.

The Accidental Apprentice by Amanda Foody
Doesn’t this cover just scream “YOU’RE GOING TO LOVE THIS FANTASY BOOK”? Yep. 11 year old orphan and mushroom farmer Barclay finds himself accidentally breaking his town’s most sacred rule by venturing into the forest alone. After he unwittingly bonds with a beast he is ran out of town by his angry neighbours, and finds himself seeking the people who have reminded bonded with their beasts… and have even shared their powers.

Rainbow Grey by Laura Ellen Andersen
As soon as we got this book back on the shelves last month, I knew right away that I had to get myself a copy. Not only is this cover just stunning but the blurb reinforced how much I needed it! Ray lives high up in the sky in the Weatherlands, surrounded by people with magical powers. She thinks she has none of her own until she visits Earth in a forbidden trip and must master her powers to save the planet. I can’t wait!

Amari and the Night Brothers by B.B. Alston
I know this is not really a new release at this point, but in my defence it did just only recently come out in paperback! I’m sure by now you all already know the premise of this book, but hearing how much everybody has already loved this story only makes me even more excited to finally pick it up. And, like all of these books, this cover is gorgeous.

The Nowhere Emporium by Ross MacKenzie
This is a book that every time I stack the shelves I look at and think “I really need to read that”, so I finally will be! A story set in Glasgow featuring a young boy living in an orphanage who accidentally stumbles across a shop which is more magical than he could ever believe. A friend likened this a little to The Strangeworlds Travel Agency which I read this month and really enjoyed, so I’m excited!

I’m so excited to get stuck into these 5 middle grade books, and being around them every day is just making me want to read them ALL NOW. Sadly, I don’t think my brain could cope with all 5 at once but I will certainly be digging into them and letting you all know my thoughts very soon!
