Oooh I’m a little bit late with my August wrap up this time, but I’m here!
My concept of time lately is all over the place. Like I can’t believe it’s already September (and nearly my birthday and the Blogosphere Awards!) but when I looked back at the books I read recently to put this post together, I honestly felt like I’d read some of them months ago. What even is time anymore?
However what I do know is that Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings was EPIC. It’s definitely one of my favourite Marvel films and I’m already planning when I’m going to see it again.
Anyway, in August I read a grand total of 10 books and I’m pleased with that! There was a real mixture of books, with children’s, young adult, new adult and adult reads across a whole host of genres. Some were great, some were okay but none were horrific. So that’s always good!

Here is my August wrap up!

First up was Ace of Spades which had me gripped and am so glad I picked it up! I raced through it and definitely agree with everybody’s rave reviews. Paige Toon has been one of my favourite romance authors for a number of years now, and I loved her latest release Someone I Used to Know too. It had her trademark heartbreaking yet uplifting plot of course.
Ok so maybe my favourite read in August was The House in the Cerulean Sea. Oh boy, what a book! It had me laughing and crying and just filled my heart with so much joy. Would 10/10 recommend the audiobook! It’s definitely up there as one of my faves of the year, in fact.
I finally read The Lives of Saints last month by listening to the audiobook and I really enjoyed it! I mean, Ben Barnes narrates half of it, so what’s not to love? But in all seriousness I just love being in the Grishaverse. I also picked up a much loved children’s book in August, The Strangeworld’s Travel Agency, and loved it. I couldn’t wait to dig into the story during my lunchbreaks at work and will for sure be picking up the sequel soon.

I continued with the sports romance series I was reading last month and finished The Change Up and The Set Up. There are a couple of questionable aspects in the books but they’re fun, hot and full of heart and I do thoroughly enjoy them.
Next I read an advanced copy of a middle grade which is publishing later this month. Fireborn by Aisling Fowler* is an exciting adventure story packed with all of our favourite children’s fantasy tropes. I’ll have a full review up soon but I just know you’re all going to love it!
I then read a book I came across somewhere online, maybe Facebook? Anyway I saw an extract from The Song of the Marked, found out that it was on Kindle Unlimited and that was all it took. The main character definitely gave me Aelin vibes though I wouldn’t necessarily liken this to Throne of Glass. A new adult fantasy with enemies to lovers, elemental magic and found family, it was an enjoyable read! I’m reading the second book now which is a bit slower so we’ll see how we go…
Finally I read The House in the Woods by Yvette Fielding*, a new middle grade horror story. Yvette drew upon her own paranormal experiences for this book and it was definitely creepy! I raced through the story and definitely found it to be an interesting take on the classic ghost hunting trope.

And that’s everything I read last month! As always, I’m feeling overwhelmed with how many books I can’t wait to read. Too many books, too little time, as they say. But each month I put these posts together and feel undoubtedly happy with what I have read. Here’s to looking forward to what comes next!
What was your favourite read in August?
